Resume Writing Tips
Excellent candidates are often overlooked because of poorly written resumes. Your resume is the first introduction to potential clients. Generally, resumes are given a cursory review to determine if further scrutiny is worthwhile. If the appropriate information is not shown clearly and concisely, you may be relegated to the “look at later” group. Tantamount to success, therefore, is a thoughtfully prepared, well-written, informative, descriptive document that showcases your skills and qualifications – one that makes you worthy of further investigation.

Problems with resumes are they often contain too much information, too little information, or the wrong kind of information. It is important to know what the potential client is seeking in terms of absolute skills and qualifications and if you possess these, do not blur them with details about “other” skills, projects, etc. They only want to know how you can contribute to their needs with the qualifications they desire. Remember, your goal is to obtain a personal interview, that’s where you can include more of the details.

For those of you struggling with the correct format, or questions about including certain information, the staff at BurnsSearch can assist in refining and tooling your resume to reflect your skills and background.
